Running late? Blame it on the “Traffic Jam”!

What started as a kids’ band in school grew into a successful indie rock band named “Traffic Jam”. Vocalist/Guitarist Jimmy Thang, Guitarist Kennedy Singh, Bassist D.S. Mung and Drummer Stevekid Valte from Manipur, started the band as kids in school, getting together for rehearsals every now and then.

On a more musical note, today, the band says, “Traffic Jam to us also suggests a spot where a lot of musicians and friends can stop by and jam. If you pass by, you are sure to stop for a while to jam, causing a Traffic Jam.

Initially, it was unthinkable for the members to pursue music as their bread and butter. Jimmy Thang was studying Mathematics in Delhi University (I guess we know who the brain of the group is!). Kennedy and Steve have very similar stories.

Mung elaborates, We come from that part of the world where people still are so largely dependent on the Government for everything. The spirit of entrepreneurship and risk taking was considered foolish but we are sincere, hard working people who are playing music for our livelihoods. Sincerity, hard work and a never ending zeal to improve oneself has been our motto and it has paid off so far. We hope it gets better, and we are fully optimistic about it.”

What makes it special is the fact that Traffic Jam is made of brothers from the same background and the same struggles. Each member has his own personal influences, but how they put all of that together as a band, is their USP. Kennedy is more rooted to the classic rock gods like Deep Purple, Pink Floyd while Stevekid incorporates Green Day, 3 Doors Down, Maroon 5, Coldplay, and Hip Hop grooves from FloRida, Black Eyed Peas, Pitbull, etc.

Mung is influenced by the more modern side of the rock spectrum such as Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for my Valentine, etc while Jimmy is more into the melodic rock side like White Lion, Whitesnake, Ozzy, Skid Row, Harem Scarem, etc. About the wide ranges of preferences, the band reassures,  “No matter our music tastes, influences and preferences, the passion and love for music is what binds all the members together.”

In December 2015, Traffic Jam had the privilege of sharing the stage with “Michael Learns To Rock”! Yes, we know it sounds like a dream, and the band members will vouch for it! It was one, indeed! Growing up with super-hits like “That’s Why You Go Away”, “Sleeping Child” and more, and then opening for them at their concert is something they still get goose bumps thinking about!

When asked about what they have achieved so far, they say,” We have come a long way (pun intended) since we are from North East of India, to Delhi. We have achieved some major milestones, but we feel we have a long way to go. The hunger to do more and better gives us the push to give all we have at every gig.”
