2015 was indeed an eventful year in the world of festivals.
2015 has been a year of great surprises, especially when it comes to festivals. From Drake and Madonna’s awkward makeout session to an adorable and definitely unexpected proposal at Comic Con, there have been several alarming and hilarious moments that took the world of festivals by the storm. Here’s the Sherp’s down-low of the insane instances that took place this year.
1. Madonna’s gratuitous (and one-sided) makeout session with Drake.
Music listeners have always had an extreme opinion about pop icon, Madonna. But one cannot deny that she never fails to remain relevant. As Drake performed his song Madonna, and led the singer on stage, she gave the audience that unforgettable moment by uhh..snogging Drake, much to his amusement (and some degree of disgust induced by her lipstick, it was later found), before trailing off with élan. Oh, Madonna, should we say, never change? Read more about Coachella 2015’s highlights here!
2. The most juvenile thing to happen at Glastonbury.
A Glasto attendee was seen waving a gigantic flag with Kim K’s face plastered on it. This would be super flattering for her if it wasn’t a still from her infamous sex tape with ex-boyfriend/singer Ray J. To top it off, the flag came with a caption that said, “Get down girl, get head get down” which was a reference to the West’s 2005 hit Gold Digger. While it’s a popular opinion that Kim K is not the most beloved of celebrities, slut shaming in such a public, aggressive and unprovoked manner is all kinds of unnecessary. 3. That time Justin Bieber got kicked out of Coachella.
After a series of very public, very bad decisions in the last two years, the temperamental pop star was physically and apparently pretty roughly escorted out of the festival premises at this year’s Coachella. The reasons for kicking him out are still somewhat ambiguous, but it’s said that The Biebs wanted to view Drake’s performance from backstage with his entourage but due to the backstage already being over-capacity, the security wouldn’t heed to his request. It’s safe to say that this didn’t sit well with Bieber and the 21-year-old caused a bit of a scene at the venue. Watch the TMZ clip of the fiasco below. Read more about it here.
4. Kanye West’s infamous declaration and the aftermath.
This was a defining moment in Kanye’s slew of ridiculous word-vomit statements. The rapper thought it prudent to declare to the world that they were watching the “greatest living rockstar on the planet”. It was soon enough that the crowd realized there would be no surprise performance by Paul McCartney or Mick Jagger and that the ‘Heartless’ singer was talking about himself. It’s almost like he was inviting the Twitterverse to trash him. Here‘s how Twitter and the rest of the world reacted to this. 5. Mark Ruffalo and Jared Leto’s Comic Con shenanigans.
Walking the floor at the New York Comic Con over the weekend, Mark Ruffalo and Jared Leto went incognito. Dressed in masks so no one would recognise them, the two celebrities walked to unsuspecting fans and took pictures with them, with no one realising who they actually were.
6. This uber-adorable proposal.
Barry Bishop, one of the make-up artists on the Con Man panel at San Diego Comic Con, decided to bring his boyfriend up on stage with him and took the mic and said, “They were asking the cast a minute ago who was the most amazing person in Hollywood you’ve worked with” he said as he held his partner’s hand, “and I just want to say Billy Brooks I love you baby with all my heart and soul and will you please marry me?” Cue waterworks.
Even Will Wheaton lost all his shit in the background.

7. When David Guetta played a nursery rhyme at Tomorrowland.
At this year’s Tomorrowland festival in Belgium, David Guetta at the mainstage, where thousands of Djs aspire to be, played what can only be described as a nursery rhyme remix. Being a globally recognized musician and expecting thousands of people to jam to “If You’re Happy And You Know It Clap Your Hands” is lunacy, at best. Read more about it here.
8. The year of prodigal DJs.
From the 11 year old who calls himself Black Summer and played his first set at Groovin The Moo to this 14 year old who lit up ADE only a few months ago, this year has been great for fresh electronic talent. Just pause to think about what you were doing when you were a kid, and you’ll find yourself admiring these little guys even more!
