About It’s The Ship

The world’s 2nd largest EDM cruise festival, and Asia’s largest, IT’S THE SHIP (ITS 2016), will be making a return for its third installment this year. The four-day and three-night floating vacation cum music festival is set to depart from the Marina Bay Cruise Centre in Singapore on November 4, crossing international waters on the straits of Malacca to the Pearl of the Orient, Penang, before returning to Singapore shores on November 7.

As a UNESCO world cultural heritage site, the island is located on the west coast of Malaysia and is much regarded to be the food paradise of Malaysia and well known for its vibrant arts scene and heritage sites. The organizers are also working to engage with the state’s tourism department to provide guests of ITS 2016 with some exciting surprises to take place in Penang. It is the first time that the festival will set sail for Penang.

2) When should I schedule my flight arrival and departure?

Embarkation begins 12.00 pm to 3.30 pm on the 4th November 2016.

The airport is approximately 40 mins from the port. You should plan your arrival for the morning of November 2016 to give you ample time to make your way to the port.

Last disembarkation is at 10.30 am on the 7th November 2016. You can schedule a flight departure for the afternoon of the 7th.

3) Where should I stay before and after the cruise?

Singapore is a fairly small but vibrant city. The cruise center is on average a 10-15 mins taxi ride from the city centre. So staying anywhere around Singapore city is fine 🙂

4) Where does the cruise leave from and how do I get there?

The cruise will leave and return to the port of Singapore: Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS):
61 Marina Coastal Drive, Singapore.

See below for detailed information on check in, baggage drop off, driving directions and parking at this terminal.

CHECK IN:

For your comfort and convenience we recommend you arrive at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore for ship check-in formalities beginning at the boarding time stated in your cruise documents but no later than 1.5 hours prior to scheduled sail time.

BAGGAGE DROP OFF:

Porters will be available to receive baggage to be checked prior to check-in at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

From the ECP (East Coast Parkway)

  • Take exit 17A – Marina Place / Marina South / Central Boulevard.
  • Turn left to stay on Marina Place
  • Turn right at Marina Boulevard.
  • Slight right to continue along Marina Coastal Drive.
  • Drive past Marina South Pier (on your left) and the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore is the next building on the left.

PARKING:

Limited Parking is available.

5) How many pieces of luggage can I bring on board?

Each guest is permitted to carry a reasonable amount of personal property (including luggage) aboard the vessel (up to 90 kg is permitted!); however, for your comfort and convenience, it is recommended that you limit the number of pieces you take. If you are flying in from another city for IT’S THE SHIP, keep in mind that airlines may charge for excess or oversize luggage.

Charges incurred for excess or oversize baggage are the sole responsibility of the passenger. Each airline has a different limit on the amount of luggage they allow. Check with your air carrier for specific restrictions, such as allowance of pounds and any additional charges.

6) What should I pack?

It is suggested that you pack lightweight, “resort casual” clothing — a few swimsuits, flip-flops, sandals or deck shoes for around the pool area, sneakers, walking shoes or hiking boots for shore trips, etc. If you like to exercise or participate in sports, bring any fitness clothing and footwear you may need. T-shirts, shorts, and/or bare feet are not permitted in the main dining rooms.

Some of the shows and activities will be taking place outdoors, and there is always the chance of it being windy, cool or even a little wet. So we suggest also packing some warmer clothing and light rain gear just to be on the safe side. Also be sure to bring your cameras, batteries and chargers, and enough film or memory cards to capture the entire event. And don’t forget ear plugs if you wish to call in an early night, sunscreen and lip balm.

You’ll also want to make sure you pack plenty of costumes for our Themed Parties! More information on themed parties to follow.

We recommend that you hand-carry all your travel documents (passports, birth certificates, airline tickets, etc.) medications, jewelry and any personal items that you may need in a separate carry-on bag. You should not put these items into checked luggage as they could become lost and prevent you from boarding the ship. Also, your luggage may take a few hours before it is delivered to your cabin.

On the last evening of your cruise your luggage will be collected for disembarkation the following morning. So you may want to pack a separate overnight bag to accommodate your last evenings’ clothes and sundries to carry off the ship with you.

Want to do a Check-list? Check out It’s The Ship’s True Shipmate packing list here.

7) What you shouldn’t pack?

You are NOT allowed to bring on board the vessel any intoxicating liquors/beverages*, firearms, weapons of any kind, ammunition, explosive substances or any goods of a dangerous nature, nor animals of any kind, except service or guide animals, provided the passenger notifies Carrier prior to the cruise of his intention to bring such animal and agrees to take sole responsibility for any expense, damage, injuries or losses associated with or caused by such animal. All Singapore and international laws pertaining to drug use should be respected, and will be strictly enforced. Please refer to our Zero Tolerance Policy and Terms and Conditions for more information.

8) What documents should I bring with me?

Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the required travel documents. The requirements described below are required by government regulations and policies. They are subject to change without notice.

Within 30 days of sailing, you will receive an email with instructions on how to complete your mandatory online check-in and print your boarding pass.

You’ll need to bring:

  1. Your boarding pass
  2. Your passport (valid for at least 6 months) with you.
    • Ensure sufficient blank visa pages within the passport for visa stamps.
    • For your protection, we recommend that your passport expiration date not occur within six (6) months following the voyage termination date.
    • Since the ship will collect your passport to speed the clearance formalities at each port of call, we suggest you bring with you a few photocopies of your passport’s personal information page which includes your recent photo, and that you carry one of these photocopies with you each time you leave the ship.
  3. Please ensure you have valid visas for entry to Singapore and Malaysia during the cruise period.
    • It is the guests’ responsibility to identify and to obtain all the necessary visas before leaving home, unless otherwise instructed below.
    • Based on nationality, some countries may still require an entry visa.
    • Further visa information may be obtained from the Embassies (Consular Service Office) of each country on your sailing itinerary.

It is the sole responsibility of the guest to identify and obtain all required travel documents for the entire cruise vacation and have them available when necessary.

Guests who do not possess the proper documentation may be prevented from boarding the ship or from entering a country and may be subject to fines. No refunds will be given to individuals who fail to bring proper documentation.

9) Are there transfers to the port and airport?

Unfortunately there will not be any pre-arranged transfers from the port and Airport. You are expected to arrange for your own transportation to and from the port which is the Marina Bay Cruise Center, Singapore (MBCCS).

The address of MBCCS is: 61 Marina Coastal Drive, Singapore 018947.

10) How do I pay for on board expenses?

All of Royal Caribbean International ships operate based on a “cashless” system, meaning your room key card, (also known as your SeaPass card), will be used as a charge card to make all onboard purchases.

Normally to activate this SeaPass account, most guests provide a credit card, (American Express, Optima, MasterCard, Visa, Discover or Diner’s Club), to have these purchases charged to at the end of their cruise.

Additionally, the SeaPass system may be activated with traveler’s checks, debit cards with a Visa or MasterCard logo, or cash.

A running tab of all your purchases will be kept under separate folio numbers for each guest and an itemized statement left in your stateroom the night before disembarkation.

Credit Card:
If you have provided a credit card and there are no discrepancies, the amount will be charged to your account on the morning of disembarkation.

Cash/Traveler’s Check:
If you have used traveler’s checks or cash to activate the account, you will need to settle the account at the Guest Relations desk, (to either receive a reimbursement of the unused amount you originally left or to pay the balance of what you have charged over the amount of what you originally left).

Please note:
We require guests to place a deposit if they are paying for their SeaPass account with cash. There is a $300 daily limit on cash accounts for 3 night sailings. Once the daily cash limit is reached, Royal Caribbean International will call the guest and inform the guest that the limit has been reached.

11) Can I smoke on board or in my cabin?

Cigarette, cigar, e-cigarette and pipe smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas of the starboard side of all ships and the Casino Royale.

All interior public spaces on-board the ship are smoke free areas. Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, theater, bar, lounge, hallway, elevator, and the jogging track.

Smoking is NOT permitted inside any stateroom and any stateroom balcony. This applies to all stateroom categories onboard. If a guest is in violation of this stateroom policy, a cleaning fee of USD250 will be applied to their SeaPass account.

Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. You must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard.

12) Can I bring my own alcohol?

Security may inspect containers (water bottles, soda bottles, mouthwash, luggage etc.) and will dispose of containers holding alcohol. Guests who violate any alcohol policies, (over consume, provide alcohol to people under age 18, demonstrate irresponsible behavior, or attempt to conceal alcoholic items at security and or luggage check points or any other time), may be disembarked or not allowed to board, at their own expense.

Note that you will be going through immigration and customs checks at the ports of embarkation.
