Flo Rida is a man who has made his songs appeal to almost every generation for a decade now. Right from his songs like ‘Low’ to the most recent ‘My House’, the Florida-based rapper has made a fortune with the help of his art form. But like many other struggling artists, he too had a difficult climb to reach the level of stardom he embraces now.

His real name is Tramar Lacel Dillard. He was born in Carol City, Florida – a suburb in Miami. Because he was born in the ghettos of Florida and that’s where he spent most of his childhood, his stage name ‘Flo Rida‘ is an ode to his roots!

2. His first venture wasn’t hip-hop.

His first career choice wasn’t exactly to dive into the world of music. After graduating from high school in 1998, he studied business management for a period of time before jumping head-first into the world of music. But the business management lessons might have come in handy, considering his fame and wealth today.

3. Flo Rida has always given back to society and the community!

Flo Rida’s childhood was surrounded by the ghetto community, which played a huge impact on his life and livelihood. So, he makes it a point to give back to the community he grew up in, the community that shaped him. He has started the Big Dreams For Kids Foundation as well as the Florida Youth Football League. Both of these NGOs focus on providing underprivileged children with education and homes!

4. He has a twin sibling!

What many people don’t know is that Flo Rida has a twin sibling. A twin sister, to be precise! Although she hasn’t pursued a career in music like he has.

5. He found major inspiration in death.

When he was mid-way through finishing one of his earliest albums, one of his sisters died of bronchitis. As tragic as it sounds, it motivated Flo to work even harder and complete his album, which obviously was a great success.

6. He got involved in music when he was in the 9th grade!

His first brush with music was when he was in school in the 9th grade. He got involved with a group called ‘GroundHoggz‘ a group of guys who used to live together in the same apartment complex. They lived together for almost 8 years and made some amazing music!
