This year’s Mumbai Film Festival lineup promises to feature some of the best of world cinema, and a definite treat for film-lovers in the city.

Popularly referred to asΒ the Mumbai Academy Of Moving Images, or ‘MAMI’, the festival was revived by Kiran Rao and film critic Anupama Chopra, along with people like Karan Johar, Javed Akhtar and a number of others. MAMI, or Jio MAMI as festival sponsors have christened it runs from October 29 to November 5 at PVR Phoenix, Lower Parel. With an eclectic bunch of films that showcase some of the best talent worldwide, as well as masterclasses and events for the attendees, this year’s festival will be more accessible, and bigger than ever before.

The festival this year received an unprecedented 248 feature film submissions in 29 languages. The Indian films on the roster include 14 world premieres, and 17 India premieres. The festival has a number of different categories for submissions, and this year, new and interesting ones have been added. There will be a section called “After Dark”, which will bring a brilliant collection of science fiction and horror films. A section called “Half Ticket” will feature animation, documentaries and shorts for a children’s jury. The festival will also have sessions at Mehboob Studios, where directors and filmmakers like Rajkumar Hirani, Imtiaz Ali and Zoya Akhtar will talk about their work and life.

Hansal Mehta’s Aligarh will open the festival, and some of the most popular films and international festivals like β€œTaxi”, β€œThe Visit”, β€œThe Assassin”, β€œThe Lobster”, β€œMistress America”, β€œMy Mother” and β€œYouth” will be screened. There’s a lot to look forwad to, so make sure you don’t miss the event!
