These epochal works of art made with flowers to honour van Gogh are nothing short of brilliant.

Van Gogh, the famous and notoriously complex artist was born in the small town of Zundert in 1853, situated amicably in Southern Netherlands. The town has been celebrating an annual flower festival called Corso Zundert for over eighty years now, every year bringing an remarkable parade of massive art installations and floats, made with flowers, of course.

This year though, Zundert dedicated the entire parade to the artistic genius of Vincent van Gogh. Take a look at these beautiful images that display the meticulously createdΒ installations at the parade.

 

The Potato Eaters

This particular float, which is a truly remarkable recreation of one of van Gogh’s most popular andΒ self-proclaimed greatest work of art, ‘The Potato Eaters’Β is also one of the best tributes seen at the festival. The actual painting was created in 1885 during the beginning of Van Gogh’s artistic career.

Adapting Van Gogh’s Tenniques

Van Gogh’s style of post-impressionism was adapted by Β lot of budding artists after Starry Night and few of his other works. The artists at Corso Zundert have displayed his artistic techniques with flourish in their installations dedicated to the famous artist.

The Display Of Dahlias

Zundert, being the largest supplier of Dahlias flaunted the fact proudly in their art, creating breathtaking floats and installations with the flower. The town is home toΒ 33 hectares (81 acres) of 600,000 dahlia bulbs in fifty different species.

An Elaborate Beauty

β€œWe are crazy about our flower parade,” says the festival’sΒ website.Β β€œOur grannies and granddads started it in 1936 and we still can’t have enough of it. By the First Sunday of September the fever burns within us. Will the moving floats be finished in time? Are there enough dahlias? And who is going to win this time?”

The Abstract Imagery

At this year’s edition, 19 teams took inspiration from the van Gogh. The towering floats borrow seemingly abstract but archetypal colors, motifs, and imagery from van Gogh’s painting including several interpretations of the artist’s self-portraits.

Some of the art featured at the festival used more modern elements amalgamated with van Gogh’s idiosyncratic techniques. TheΒ contemporary art forms used and depicted in this particular artwork includes graphic design and spraypaint graffiti.
