Hard Rocking Megastars Leave Fans “Thunderstruck”!
Formed by brothers – Angus Young and Malcolm Young, the Australian Rock band has been around since 1973!
They would often tell a story about how the classic song came about. Turns out, the song was based on when Angus was flying in a plane that was struck by lightning and nearly crashed, but in the 2003 re-release of The Razor’s Edge, Angus explained, “It started off from a little trick that I had on guitar. I played it to Mal and he said, ‘Oh I’ve got a good rhythm idea that will sit well in the back.”
They built the song up from that base and fiddled with it for a few months before everything fell into place. This led to the creation of one of the the greatest guitar riffs of all time!
The song was written by the Young Brothers and soon “Thunderstruck” became a lead single on the 1990 album The Razors Edge. This album is considered as a major comeback for the band at that point of time!
The live album was recorded during AC/DC’s Black Ice World Tour on 4 December 2009 at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires.
Imagine the atmosphere there!
Angus, adopting his school uniform outfit, starts off the song on open string while Brian Johnson goes up and down the ramp with the crowd yelling “THUNDER!” right at the beginning of the song! Just to be present at this concert would have been quite an experience!
Watch out for Angus Young’s Incredible Duck Walk at 3:18! Only Legends like him can pull out licks with such class!
