After two teenagers died at HARD Summer 2015 from drug overdoses, LA County officials are calling for a ban on large-scale music festivals.

LA County’s Supervisor, Hilda Solis says is planning to push a motion banning all major festivals in the county, although investigations are still pending into the two deaths. She says, “I am deeply troubled by the fact that this is the third such death to happen in my district in the last year and a half. No one – no one should have to lose their life while attending a public concert.”

Although this may be done with the intention of protecting people, we at Festival Sherpa fail to see how it’s going to help reduce drug usage or deaths. Music festivals are often unjustly stigmatized asΒ being the cause forΒ these incidents, andΒ banning them is not a solution to the actual problem.
