The Cannes Film Festival is in full swing with the cream of the film industry flying in to celebrate the best in world cinema. Liam Gallagher was also present on the Red Carpet to promote Supersonic, named after their hit track, a documentary focusing on the incredible success of the Brit-Pop band Oasis. Oasis split up in the August of 2009 after differences between Liam, his brother Noel Gallagher and other band mates. While Liam went on to form a new band called Beady Eye, Noel moved on with a solo project dubbed Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds but talks of a reunion have been increasing.
In a funny incident, when Liam walked the Red Carpet, several photographers mistook him for Sacha Baron Cohen dressed up as Nobby, his football hooligan alter ego. The fact that Cohen came dressed as General Aladeen, from The Dictator, last year at Cannes, fueled the confusion. Liam was of course not at all amused with this incident especially due to his ongoing feud with Cohen.
Their fight goes back to an event when Sacha pissed off Gallagher by not using a pre planned joke about the singer during an acceptance speech. Sacha later revealed that Liam had threatened to “stab him in the eye” for this. When reached for clarification, Liam’s reps responded saying, “Liam wants to clarify that it wasn’t just the one eye, it was both”. This led to Cohen creating Nobby, a character based on Liam which appeared in the movie The Brothers Grimsby that released earlier this year.
