Even though she wasn’t known for the best live performances, when she got it right, she got it so right.
It has been five years since the incredible Amy Winehouse died ofΒ a drug overdose in her house in London but the memory of her deep voice and signature winged eyeliner is stuck in our heads to this very day. In honour of her memory and her birthday on September 14th, here are some of her best live performances.
1. Valerie
ThisΒ cover track, written by The Zutons, was a part of Mark Ronson’s album Version in 2007. It has been performed a number of times but this performance is vocally on point.
2. You Know I’m No Good
Fresh out of jail for drug possession, Amy performed for a crowd and was feeling thankfulΒ towards everyone there. They, in return, were rewarded with this performance.
3. Cupid
This track, with a unique reggae/jazz sound, was quite unique even for the songstress but still she manages to carry it off with out a hitch at Glastonbury.
4. Body and Soul
Tony Bennett approached Amy for this jazz duet and was the last song she recorded before her death. It was released on what would have been her 28th birthday, reminding people of the tragic loss.
5. Love Is A Losing Game
The last single from Back to Black, this track got a special verse by her close friend singer and actor Mos Def. Even though she messed up her rhythm, she took a hilarious approach and worked it out in seconds.
6. Take The Box
At the beginning of her career, Amy performed this track which she wrote for her first album “Frank”, Β looking healthy and with her jazz roots intact. It is nothing less than expected.
7. Back To Black
The introduction she gives for this song clearly indicated her issues with life, but doesn’t let it affect her vocal intensity.
8. Rehab
With the song that made her a household name, Amy performed on the David Letterman Show with her band flawlessly.
