The Chicago civic authority has voted to ban all forms of smoking in and around Lollapalooza and Pitchfork venues
Chicagoans won’t be able to light a cigarette, or use a vaporiser at the city’s 580 parks as a strict smoking ban was approved this Wednesday (September 10) by the Chicago Park District. The parks managed by the Chicago Park District are Grant Park, home to Lollapalooza; Union Park, where Pitchfork Music Festival and North Coast Music Festival take place; and Humboldt Park, the site of this weekend’s Riot Fest.
Although the ban has been made effective immediately, thousands attending Riot Fest in Humboldt Park this weekend will not be ticketed, according to Park District Superintendent Mike Kelly. He said the decision to ban smoking in parks was the right thing to do to protect the health of people in the park, especially children.
Pipes, cigars, cigarettes, e-cigarette vaporisers and medicinal marijuana are included in the ban, and the resolution cites tobacco use as “the single most preventable cause of death in the United States.”
What do you think about this decision? Can a festival the scale of Lollapalooza run without a single case of smoking violation? Either way, think twice before you light up. This commercial should help you:
