Radhika Vaz’s incredible web series ‘Shugs & Fats’ will be screened at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival!

The upcoming Tribeca Film Festival will mean big things for the Indian comedienne as her web series has been selected to be screened at the festival. The web series, titled ‘Shugs & Fats’, is about two Hijabi women holding on to their heritage and culture in Brooklyn, NYC.

The public screenings will take place on the evening of April 14 at the Regal Cinemas Battery Park. This will be one of 11 works chosen to be screened at the same event. Radhika and her co-creator Nadia Manzoor have so far uploaded three seasons online and even won the ‘breakthrough series’ award at the 25th IFP Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York last November.

The 15th edition of the festival will run for a total of 12 days from April 13 to 24 in Lower Manhattan. The satirical series will be screened at Tribeca NOW (New Online Work), a platform that showcases online storytellers’ talent. Shugs and Fats will also be part of the inaugural Tribeca Digital Creators Market and Special Screenings program.

The creators have also been invited to attend the festival. ” It is a dream come true for us to be invited to screen our comedy web series at the Tribeca Film festival, which has emerged as the mecca for online and experiential storytelling in recent years,” said the filmmaker said in a statement. “With the world moving to digital, we are super excited that it is now launching the Tribeca Digital Creators Market as the first ever marketplace to connect online and digital creators with buyers, producers and agents.
