All Welcome To Ye Olde Shakespeare Fest!

We at Festival Sherpa take pride in introducing our readers to the weirdest/coolest/most amazeballs and yet, unsung and underrated festivals from the shiftiest crevices of the world. Ergo, we love discovering new festivals. And we love enthusing about them to you. Here’s this week’s fix of quirky for you.

For all you drama/literature nerds out there, here’s a glimpse of Oregon’s amazing Shakespeare festival. A dramatic celebration of the wistful tales and ElizabethanΒ costumes that were identified with William Shakespeare’s prime, Oregon nurtures and cultivates this literary festival for eight months every year.

This eight month season is packed with Shakespeare plays (11 of them to be precise), play readings, seminars, the Feast of Will – a dinner to celebrate the inauguration of the Allen Elizabeth Theater, where the event is held – and The Green Show, a mini festival-within-festival that will take place in the courtyard with a banquet, music and everything else to make the atmosphere as Shakespeare-esque as can be.

The 11 different plays each season include four by Shakespeare (this season sees The Tempest, Richard III, The Two Gentlemen of Verona , and The Comedy of Errors ) and seven othersΒ by classic writers, as well as modern and contemporary works and world premieres. It’s all up to you. See one or two, or pack it in with up to nine in a week.

So dust off your Elizabethan cosplay outfits and head to Oregon this year. Oregon Shakespeare Festival runs from February through November. See more details here.
