This is gospel but not the Panic at The Disco kind. This is even better.

Over the years, we’ve all had those songs which are an all-time favourite. Imagine those being covered by choir groups! FYI, it’ll lead you to a sob fest that will give you goosebumps, of a good kind obviously. We found a few legendary covers that are worth a listen.

  1. Drunk In Love – Beyonce

This, first of all, would have never been thought of. Admit it, especially after the steamy video that came with it. However LaThelma Armstrong came out with this smashing gospel completely A capella. She puts a unique twist on the song and we’re seriously impressed. She’s incredibly talented and highly creative to do this after all.

2. Jealous – Nick Jonas

No denying that this man has been having a great solo career without his brothers. Jonas, whose father was a pastor and sang in a choir, went back to his roots and re-recorded the song with the gospel vocals that sound effortless. This too was quite aΒ suggestive track but itΒ turns out to be a song with an easy going feel. We’re really diggingΒ this version more than the original!

3. Β Stay With Me – Sam Smith

The Kyteman Orchestra created this very non-traditional rendition of Sam Smith’s smash hit. Not a gospel in reality but surely resembles one emotionally. The aura as well as the presentation was completely out of this world. The combination of the synth and the drums was complementary in an unimaginable way, but we’re not complaining at all.

4. See You Again – Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth

This track was already a tear-jerker because of the death of Paul Walker before completing the Fast and The Furious series shoot. This song was great originally but this cover is equally emotional and the addition of theΒ Antioch Pomona Missionary Baptist Church choir is all the better. The artist also dedicated this one to everyone who has ever lost somebody they’ve loved. We aren’t sobbing. We’re fine.

5. Take Me To Church – Hozier

Hozier became a household favourite with this song which gave him worldwide recognition and the video was banned in a few countries for its homosexual depiction. That’s why this gospel mix by Lindsey Seals – a pastor, makes it that much more special andΒ keeps theΒ video’s impact in mind.

6. Tiring Game – John Newman

John Newman’s “Love Me Again” is a cult classic and after discovering this masterpiece, we’ve made another addition to the list. This too gives an uplifting feel to the song. Newman’s lyrics, along with his collaborator Charlie Wilson, is quite a bit different than the original version they did together, but its an even better rendition.

7. Roar – Katy PerryΒ

This song was such a pop hit that it has been covered by thousands ofΒ singers, but this version is so beautiful we got goosebumps which didn’t disappear for a while. The song somehow makes a deeper impact with the choir and just a piano. The harmonies are soothing and give such a positive vibe, you won’t be able to help but tap to it.

8. Fix You – Coldplay

The Kokopelli Choir includes young choir singers who combine a traditional sound with a non-traditional presentation. This cover by the boys and girls is elevated at the bridge of the song and leaves one in awe. You should check out theirΒ killer version of U2’s With or Without You. They also have an association that provides singers with music education. Let this be viral everywhere!

9. Hallelujah – Leonard Cohen

Welsh choir, CΓ΄r GlanaethwyΒ performed this cover of Hallelujah on Britain’s Got Talent completely in Welsh. You would think that you would have a hard time understanding them but on the contrary they sound exquisite. The vocal range of the kids and adults shakes the whole crowd and the finale of the show.

10. Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen

If you don’t know this song, you need some serious help. This cover is special because it is performed by the members of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles. They sound like angels and the intensity of the soloist is breathtaking to another level. An absolutely outstanding tribute to Mercury and the band.
