Music festivals in your teens are different. You probably don’t remember much because you were either passed out or making out with someone random the whole time. Or you weren’t even at a music festival because your minuscule allowance didn’t allow you to go. But hey, your 20’s is the decade when all of that will change (a little at least). You want to explore a little more, learn a little more and drink a little less. And thus, we have a list of 10 music festivals that you absolutely NEED to attend in your glory days!

1. Electric Daisy Carnival, Las Vegas

EDC is the ultimate for any dance music lover. The festival has an insane lineup every year, this year including the likes of Above and Beyond, Zedd, Axwell & Ingrosso and The Chainsmokers. The festival has some of craziest production we have ever seen, with insane stages, beautiful & friendly people and is the perfect place for you to have an experience completely unlike anything else. The festival is nothing less than ‘life changing’, as many festival goers have described it as.

2. Burning Man, Nevada

Burning Man is an annual gathering that takes place at Black Rock City, a temporary community erected in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada though they have plans to get a more permanent setting. The festival is based on 10 principles that include radical inclusion, leave no trace, self-expression and gifting. More than a festival, it’s a community of people who love art and culture and maintains a spectacular atmosphere of love and acceptance.

3. Bonnaroo, Tennessee

The ‘Roo is known best for its amazing atmosphere. For 15 years, Bonnaroo has lured festival-goers from all corners of the country with a unique mix of positive vibes, good food and great music. This year, the festival saw crowd-pleasers such as Pearl Jam, LCD Soundsystem and Dead & Company. It’s one of the few festivals that has managed to strike the perfect balance between kick ass lineups, amazing people and a really happy atmosphere!

4. Meadows in the Mountains, Bulgaria

This festival is what you should be fantasising about when you want to run away from your job and let nature claim you. Meadows in the Mountains is so hippie, that you’re going to love it. Getting to the festival is a task in itself, but trust us when we say it’s all worth it. A wild and free party on the top of a majestic mountain and a killer view, filled with ridiculously beautiful people. At the festival, you could check out ‘laser wedding dresses’ or drown your sorrows in some delicious craft beer, the point is that you have lots to choose from.

5. Carnevale de Rio, Rio

When: February 24-28

You’ve probably heard of the most famous carnival in the world. Celebrated just before the period of Lent, the Rio Carnival is the most outrageous and colourful celebration. Exotic parades filled with elaborate floats and dancers from some of the best samba schools take over Rio De Janerio, Brazil. Everything is a celebration and everyone is invited here. So besides the obvious reasons, why should you go there? Well, because this is going to be the perfect way for you to sample the Brazilian culture as the entire city comes alive for this festival.

6. Coachella, South California

Coachella is probably the most popular festival in the world (and also the most expensive). It’s the magical land where everyone looks beautiful (read: Instagram-able) and the music is amazing and the food is amazing and the art is amazing. Packing two powerhouse weekends, you can have the best of everything here. This year, they hosted the famed Guns N’ Roses reunion and we have no reason to believe coming years will be any less iconic.

7. Snowbombing, Alaska

Snowbombing is a festival filled with fresh air, blue skies, black runs and white-hot parties. A week-long whirlwind of world class DJs and bands, in the idyllic alpine setting of Mayrhofen, Austria. This is probably the only place you can ski all day and then attend an insane rave in the night. The festival sees a primarily European crowd, as Mayrhofen is a very popular destination for snow sports, possibly one of the best in Europe. Happy, breezy and youthful are the best words to describe the hundreds of people who descend upon the snowy mountains every year!

8. SXSW, Austin, Texas

When: March 10-19, 2017

If you are looking for a festival that gives lets you experience almost all of the arts during an incredible 10 days, SXSW is just what you need. The annual films, art and music festival attracts a progressive and super chill crowd that can talk about all the right issues every year. The festival gets full marks in almost everything, be it culture, fashion, music, films or street art. In fact, Barack Obama skipped ex-First Lady Nancy Reagan’s funeral to be a part of this incredible experience.

9. Secret Garden Party, UK

This annual independent arts and music festival is all the right kinds of boutique. The festival has grown from just one stage and 1,000 visitors to 15 stages and more than 26,000 visitors over the years. This is the kind of party that most grown-ups would die to be part of. And why not? The festival takes place when the English weather is the most forgiving, has an incredible lineup every year and still manages to stay true to its off beat roots. Set in a 220 acre landscaped garden, bordering a river and lake, this is a festival without sponsorship and offers an eclectic musical mix.

10. Electric Forest, Michigan

The festival is a four day multi genre event that is breathtakingly beautiful.  Here’s what you can look forward to – An all-female camping ground, insane lineups and of course, and a festival experience you are not likely to forget anytime soon. Electric Forest is held at The Double JJ resort with sprawling grounds and nearby lake (perfect for a quick dip) a water park and a golf course designed by Arthur Hills. Basically your time in Rothbury could double as a legitimate summer vacation.
