The Download Festival will pay tribute to the Motorhead frontman by renaming the main stage after him.

January witnessed the death of some great artists, some of who were David Bowie, Alan Rickman and Lemmy. Tributes are being held at various festivals and public spaces either through professionally managed events or by fans. The Download Festival will be one of the festivals paying tribute to rock legend Lemmy by renaming the main stage after him along with the 2016 Grammy Awards which will celebrate his life, legacy and contribution to the world of music. Motorhead was all set to perform at the festival before Lemmy’s untimely demise. The band is often considered a precursor to, or one of the earliest members of, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, which re-energised heavy metal in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The line up poster has been edited to replace Motorhead’s slot with with Lemmy’s iconic black cavalry hat which he wore to every live performance. In a statement, festival organizers said, “We are working with Motorhead’s management on a tribute to the great man during the slot he would have performed on, more information to follow.”

We hope whoever is chosen to fill the slot is upto the task because those are some pretty large shoes to fill!
