Why should humans have all the fun?

This year, Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, is all set to host a major camel festival. Scheduledย to commence on 19th March, the festival will feature more than 15,000 camels from the Kingdom and other Gulf states. But, that isn’t even the best part about the festival. The month-long fest will also feature a beauty contest for these four-legged mammals! Apparently, camel beauty pageants were once a local desert custom which has now being turned into a major competition, complete with prizes and gifts worth millions! Sounds like quite the big deal, doesn’t it?

The festival will take place on the outskirts of Riyadh and will beย organised under the aegis of the Riyadh-based King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (KAFRA). Founded in 1972 by a royal decree with a mandate to promote the history and heritage of the Kingdom as well as the wider Arab and Islamic world, KAFRA is managed by a board of directors chaired under King Salman.

The participating camels will have to be electronically numbered and will have to pass all the necessary medical tests. The winners will be selected under different categories. As you can see, they have gone all out to ensureย the festival is top class. The organisers of the festival plan to turn it into an international festival very soon by putting it under their plan for Saudi Vision 2030.ย
