They captured our hearts with their music for years but sadly we had to say goodbye to them this year. These 10 Artists will forever be remembered and their music will live on.

10. Matt Roberts

The young drummer from ‘3 Doors Down’ lost his life to an overdose in August just outside Milwaukee at a charity eveny this year. The star co-wrote the band’s massive hit ‘ Kryptonite’ that saw the band achieving huge success.

9. Sir George Martin (BEATLES)

Known as ‘the fifth Beatle’, this legendary record producer was involved in tracks of one of the most iconic bands in the history of music. Not only is he one of the greatest producers of all time, scoring 30 #1 hits in the UK and 23 #1 in the US but he is involved in almost all of the Beatles’s music.

8. Maurice White

The founding member of one of the most soulful bands of the 90’s, Earth Wind and Fire, died in his sleep after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease at his home in Los Angeles, at the age of 74. Known for their R&B, soul, funk, jazz, disco, pop, rock, Latin and African musical vibe, Earth Wind and Fire is one of the most successful bands of all time!

7. Paul Kantner

One of the founders and prime members of the band ‘Jefferson Plane’, Paul KantnerΒ died on 28th January at the age of 74 as a result of β€œmultiple organ failure and septic shock”. The band, known for putting psychedelic rock on the map, were the first successful international artists from the Bay Arena and were a defining factor in the San Francisco sound.

6. Frank Sinatra Jr

Son of Frank Sinatra and younger brother of Nancy Sinatra, Frank Sinatra Jr, died of a massive heart attack at the age of 72 on the 16th March 2016. Β The American singer, songwriter, and conductor became the vocalist forΒ Sam Donahue’s band at the young age of 19! And by 1968, he already performed in 47 states and 30 countries. The music world truly lost another great Sinatra with his passing.

5. Phife Dawg

Legendary hip-hop star, Malik Izaak Taylor a.k.a Phife Dawg died on March 23rd this year at the age of 45. This rapper co-founded the legendary group ‘A Tribe called Quest’ and was often referred to as ‘The Five Foot Assasin’. His influence on the group’s second album was critically acclaimed by fellow artists, thanks to his tackle of social and political issues.

4. Leonard Cohen

This iconic poet, songwriter and singer captured our hearts with his beautifully crafted words and the world will truly miss him for it. Speaking about the artist’s death, at the age of 82 on 7th November, his son Andy Cohen said, β€œMy father passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles with the knowledge that he had completed what he felt was one of his greatest records. He was writing up until his last moments with his unique brand of humor.”

3. Glenn Fry

Singer, guitarist and founding member of the ‘Eagles’, Glenn Fry, died on January 8th at the age of 67 due to rheumatoid arthritis and attendant intestinal issues. The musician wrote some of the band’s most famous hits, including all-time classic,’ Hotel California’ and ‘Take it Easy’ that saw the band achieve international success and gain fans of all ages acrossΒ the world. The star’s soothing voice and personality will certainly be remembered.

The Grammy-award winning star died on January 10th just two days after the release of his 25th album ‘Blackstar’.
