Ziro festival of music will get a nationwide broadcast on Doordarshan and we are thrilled.

The much awaited fifth edition of the Ziro Festival of Music is going to be aired on national television across India through Doordarshan. The magnificent Ziro valley will be hosting the festival where a pool of talent will be performing.  The four day festival will be hosted by Shillong-based Lou Majaw, who is known for his heartfelt tributes to Bob Dylan.

They made an official announcement regarding their broadcast on Doordarshan with this tweet.

Indietronica duo Akummika from Nagaland, progressive rock masters Reverse Tragedy from Mizoram, folk fusion band Abiogenesis and more North Eastern performers will get to play their music in front of a country-wide audience, a first for any music festival, especially in the North-East.

As Doordarshan has viewers based mostly in the rural areas, many untouched ears will get to hear the alternative music scene of the country. From what it looks like, this is probably the Indian music scene maturing and getting ready to play for a countrywide audience.
