Winter is coming but will the EDM festivals follow suit?

The Government of Goa is planning not to permit the party-packet music festivals in the state during its peak tourist season between 15th of December to 15th of January.

The state’s Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar stated, “We are seriously thinking not to allow mega events like EDM festivals between December 15th and January 15th every year as the state witnesses a rush of tourists during that time who arrive here to usher in the New Year.” This apparent ban is due to the intense pressure put on the traffic as well as criticism from the Opposition and civil society groups.

This is sad news not only tourists but also for Indian festival lovers who don’t miss a chance to visit Goa, especially for such festivals. While both the event organisers have sent applications asking for permissions to hold the festivals, they have been given the option to hold the festivals before the 15th of December or after the 15th of January, when there is a drop in tourism. However, there’s no confirmation on this yet.

Say it isn’t so, Goa Government! Say it isn’t so!
