Disgusting but true

In an effort to give their yearly self-curated rock festival a *ahem* ‘unique smell,’ the shock rockers have decided to burn camel dung during the event.

A press release issued by the band explicitly explained the need and thought behind this peculiar idea –

“Knotfest has its own aroma that will infest your brain, body and clothes for days after the festival is over,” it reads. “Personally picked by Slipknot themselves, the smell of Knotfest will permeate the festival grounds. Oil drums will be filled with camel shit’ set aflame to last the entire festival.”

However, this is not the first time the band has dabbled with the idea. In a recent interview by The Rolling Stone, the band’s percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan  explained, “We did the camel dung on the first Knotfest. It was awesome; it was beautiful…[Fans] came into the museum and they had to be hit with camel shit. A very distinct smell. You can’t huff it, but it’s got this smell. And it’s not necessarily the most comfortable thing, but its not necessarily the worst thing, it’s just remembering thoughts — it’s gonna be a reoccurring thing.”

Regardless of how unappealing it sounds, Slipknot is a band with the sheer tenacity to pull of something like this. And to be honest, that sort of ‘thinking-out-of-thebox’, is exactly what contemporary festivals need to be set apart from each other.

Knotfest takes place every October, with this year’s edition beginning on the 24th, held in San Bernardino California. If you’re someone who’s out to get their thrash metal fix, Knotfest is the perfect place for you.  Some of the popular acts performing (out of the 59) at the festival will be Anthrax, Napalm Death and Slipknot themselves.

Knotfest is a world of weird. This year the fest will include a goat petting zoo, a Burning man inspired thunderdome that will hold fights every night of the festival and a zipline! The first ever at a music festival in the US.
