The Sherp gives his take on French producer, Michael Calfan’s performance in Mumbai this month!

Electronic music at its best. This is the best possible way to describe the rage that took over Club Royalty on Friday night. The club had its usual charm working as hordes of people rushed in to experience another sick night of dance music madness. Catering to them this time was the man behind the global hit β€˜Resurrection’, French maestro Michael Calfan.

Arriving at the scene at 11 pm, the first thing The Sherp witnessed was people seeking entry into the club, making phone calls, trying to pull strings here & there – you know the drill. Handling the proceedings indoors were Mumbai-based duo One & One, playing a stellar warm–up set Β which ended with an extended mix of the much acclaimed Lana Del Rey hit β€˜Summertime Sadness’.

The crowd was kept waiting as the Summertime Sadness beats worked as an intro for The Frenchman, who finally took over the decks at 12 am. The venue was enveloped by a layer of immense excitement as everyone sensed a slight hint of the β€˜Resurrection’ intro which did eventually come, but in the form of a classy lyrical mash-up. By far, one of the best starts to a set The Sherp has seen in quite some time now! The remainder of his set did not disappoint. He played the likes of Hard Rock Sofa’s β€˜Rasputin’, Jewelz & Scott Sparks’ β€˜Toxic Rush’, the Maurizio Gubellini & Delayers’ remix of β€˜Atom’ amongst an array of other smashers. Notable transitions in his set included his smooth movement from Fatboy Slim’s β€˜Praise You’ to his latest collaboration with Fedde le Grand titled β€˜Lion’ (which is a highly anticipated track on the Beatport charts) followed by a brilliant change in mood via Skrillex & Damian Marley’s β€˜Make It Bun Dem’.

After shelling out a beast of a set, the night finally came to an end at about 2:30 am, The Frenchman dazzled the crowd from start to finish, and The Sherp would like to give a big shout out to Deep Sound Entertainment for bringing down such a class act!

The Sherp also had a chat with Michael Calfan before the gig. Click here to read what he had to say.
