Coachella Weekend 1 gave us a pretty good idea of what to expect. From reunions aplenty to surprise performances galore, Coachella 2016 was all about how many artists you could pack into 3 days.

Be it Ice Cube breaking into a performance of Fuck Tha Police with MC Ren, Ke$ha making a comeback with a rendition of True Colors or the unexpected Bernie Sanders video introduction to Run The Jewels, festival goers hit the jackpot when it comes to how many artists they witnessed per dollar. Either way the festival once again proved why it’s the highest earning music festival in the world. Check out some of the highlights of the first weekend at the valley festival below!

1. Ice Cube brings out DJ Yella, MC Ren, O’Shea Jackson Junior, Common and Snoop Dogg!

Ice Cube was the only artist listed on the lineup but he did promise everyone a grand show and that he would attempt to bring together all of N.W.A. on stage. He did exactly that when all surviving members except Dr. Dre joined him for an explosive performance.

2. Guns N’ Roses reunite for a nostalgic performance and even bring out Angus Young of AC/DC.

A Guns N’ Roses reunion has long been awaited and though it wasn’t exactly what every fan wished for, it was one for the history books. Axl Rose was unfortunately confined to a chair  due to his broken foot and his vocals had somewhat deteriorated but Slash and McKagan did their part with excellence. The highlight was when Angus Young of AC/DC joined them on stage to perform a few songs.

3. The LCD Soundsystem reunion.

LCD Soundystem made quite a fan following for themselves in their decade of existence and were one of this year’s most awaited reunions. Several other major festivals are also monopolizing on their reunion by giving the electro rockers headliner status.

4. The Bernie Sanders video introduction for Run The Jewels and surprise NAS performance.

Coachella felt the Bern when a recorded video of Bernie Sanders introducing Run The Jewels was played just before they took to the stage. In addition NAS joined them to perform his hit ‘Made You Look’.

5. The killer Grimes set.

6. Zedd feat. Ke$ha in her first large scale performance since the endless court battles began.

Ke$ha has been having a rough time lately with her finally coming out about the abuse she faced through the years from Dr. Luke. Though her court battles haven’t ended she has definitely found the courage to showcase her amazing vocals on stage in front of such a huge audience.

7. Disclosure bringing out Sam Smith, Lorde and Aluna Francis.

Disclosure brought out Sam Smith to sing their hit collab Latch and had the crowd singing along with every word.

8. Brendon Urie of Panic At The Disco! joins Halsey on stage!

Brendon Urie sang a bit of New Americana along with Halsey and then proceeded to sing his hit single I Write Sins Not Tragedies.

9. Yeezy faces some technical difficulties midway through his performance with A$AP Rocky.

A$AP Rocky brought out Kanye West on stage for a performance of Father Stretch My Hands but Yeezy’s mic cut off midway during his performance though he continued rapping before both ended the track and stormed off the stage.

10. Major Lazer surprises the audience with Sean Paul, Mø and DJ Snake.

Major Lazer had one of the most energetic sets of the weekend and they had help from some other crowd favourite artists like Sean Paul, Mø and DJ Snake.

11. Sia delivers one of the most powerful performances at Coachella!

Sia wowed audiences while singing in her signature blonde wig along with Maddie Ziegler displaying her expressionist dance moves.
