A scarcity of sober ravers seems to be plaguing music festivals.

A recent survey by MSN UK found that more than half of the festival goers don’t attend festivals simply for the music. The poll quizzed 2,000 concert goers and the statistics were quite alarming. A quarter of them admitted to hooking up with a stranger. A meager 21% admitted to taking some form of drug. Unmistakably, this number far exceeds that figure.

Festivals are an extraordinary way to escape the daily humdrum of life. The music, the lights, the open sky, the sounds of a myriad of people resonating ecstatically around you – it goes deeper than all of that! You can experience a star-studded line-up of artists you love, and even artists you’ve never seen or heard before.

Music festivals that are massive are usually sold-out events. The β€œjunkies” who essentially want to stand at the back of the crowd in a state β€˜alternate reality’ appear to be eating up tickets from fans that are actually willing to travel far and wide to see their favorite artists. Some of them may like the music too, but they’re more in it for the β€˜scene’. What they fail to understand is that the music IS the scene. They need to look for alternative venues to get high. However, that’s not necessarily true. Occasionally, when the drugs wear off, they pose for Instagrams.

Sex is another sought-after pursuit for many available youngsters who attend festivals. The thrill of meeting new people is almost overwhelming for them. They are lured by this atmosphere which allows them to socialize with strangers. Nearly 50% of people have said that they’ve indulged in activities at concerts that they’d never consider doing anywhere else.

Even though the poll surveyed a mere 2,000 people, there is a likelihood of these activities being a widespread trend in larger-scale festivals.
