Two of India’s biggest hip-hop stars will be highlighted in the movie too! Hip-hop has been around for a long time and in a few recent years, it has grown in popularity among the Indian crowd and drawn a large amount of hopeful hip-hop stars in the country. Soon, Bollywood will be getting it’s own version of what’s been happening in the underground hip-hop scene in Mumbai! Famed-director Zoya Akhtar will be exploring, in depth, the Mumbai hip-hop culture in her new movie “Gully Boy” staring actors Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. The film will also highlight the rise to fame of hip-hop royalty in India – Divine and Naezy. Both have collaborated in the past with the track “Mere Gully Mein” and we’re guessing that was where the film title got its inspiration from. Earlier in 2016, Akhtar was quoted by First Post stating, “Yes, my next film is inspired by real life street rappers. I watched these kids on the Net and they just blew my mind. I didn’t know that this kind of music was coming out of the lanes and by-lanes of Mumbai. People are so consumed with listening to just film music that nobody pays attention to some serious talent on the streets. That is how it all started.” We can’t wait to see her put some hip-hop magic on the big screen! We’ll keep you updated on more deets.
