German glitch, hip hop and IDM duo – Modeslektor are all set for a two city India tour this December.

The talented two are no strangers to our subcontinent as they’ve played here before in 2009 and 2011 consecutively.
For those of you who don’t know,  Modeselektor is made up of Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary, who apart from drawing heavy influences from electro house and IDM are self-proclaimed genre non-conformists.

“Happy metal, hard rap, country-ambient, Russian crunk. We don’t like it if people tag us as being a certain style or school or scene or whatever. We don’t really care about all that.”

Over the years, they’ve managed to come out with three highly appraised albums, multiple compilations and DJ Mixes, although that’s not all. Their tunes come highly recommended from Radiohead-front man Thom Yorke, who has publicly acknowledged himself as a fan of the duo’s work. Subsequently, they’ve received tones of support from him as he even featured on their 2011 album – Monkeytown.

What’s even more exciting? Red Bull Music Academy, has been instrumental in bringing these dance music daddies to India, this year. And of course, (as you’ve guessed) the duo will be conducting RBMA sessions along with  two bangin’ live shows. (DUH)

If you haven’t already seen or heard what they’re capable of, here have a listen –

Here’s an interesting story on how they started making music
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the city had a long way to go regarding its rebuilding and rebirth. In a way artists and musicians took advantage of the situation to promote their art. Quoted in an interview by www.theredalert.com they said:

“After the Wall came down, everywhere in Germany and especially East Germany there was a lot of chaos, anarchy…..Nobody, especially the authorities knew what to do. So they didn’t interfere when someone put up a pair of sneakers in an abandoned building, put in a fog machine and strobe light and threw a party. Due to those illegal rave parties in the 90’s we found our way to Techno. Throwing parties and buying records went together back then. At the time, Techno was something incomputable. You didn’t have the chance to know about new releases through the much of the Internet. It was all through mouth to mouth propaganda and copied flyers.”

Modeselektor will be playing DJ Sets in two cities this India :

Wednesday, December 4: blueFROG
Friday, December 6: Club Lap, New Delhi

Make sure you catch one of the gigs. It’ll be an experience of a lifetime.
