The EDM giants have released a new track, just a month before making their way to India for The Mad Decent Block Party.
Major Lazer are back with a new song. This time, they’ve teamed up with not one but two rap sensations in the same song! Their single, “Run Up”, features none other than American rap powerhouse Nicki Minaj and Canadian rap star PartyNextDoor. Guess rap fans are in for a double treat!
Punching in musical influences from the cultural backgrounds of the artists involved, this song presents a suave blend of the Caribbean groove with distorted guitar chords and high-pitch vocals. What’s interesting is that there is a soft balance between the contradictory styles of both PartyNextDoor and Nicki Minaj throughout the track. The smooth crooning vocals of PartyNextDoor is complimented with the intensity of Nicki’s oh-so-reliable verse. The American star definitely amps up the tempo, that’s for sure!
Major Lazer member, Diplo, spoke about how important it is for the trio to work with artists of different styles “who are on the same wave,” enthusing, “Nicki and Party really helped us bring the classic Major Lazer style”.
He also said, “PartyNextDoor is a good friend of ours. We’re always working in LA when he is around and we’ve cut a lot of music and we really believe in what he does and his style. He came up with a great song. I’ve always wanted to work with Nicki as well, she’s on our short list. Of course this record…..she just vibed with it, she loved the feeling and timing was right so we got her on it. So hopefully we can do a lot more with her next time, we’ve traded some music back and forth so hopefully we got some of that done.”
The group’s Walshy Fire eloquently added, “Major Lazer is all about making the world smaller by making the party bigger.”
In more good news, the electronic music group are all set to release their fourth album “Music Is the Weapon” this year.
