The massive comic book and arts convention kicks off in downtown San Diego today.

For all those dying to bring out the kid in you, the Comic Con International held in San Diego each year, is the perfect place to be.  Held over 4 days (24th – 27th July) this year at the San Diego Convention Center, Comic-Con has become the main event for comics conventions, including: comics creators, science fiction and fantasy authors, film and TV directors, producers and writers, and fans of all these popular arts genres.

Started back in 1970 when a group of comics, movie, and science fiction fans – including the late Shel Dorf, Ken Krueger, and Richard Alf – banded together to put on the first comic book convention in southern California. Comic-Con started as a one-day “minicon,” called San Diego’s Golden State Comic-Minicon.

Comic-Con is the largest of any comics or pop culture convention in the country. It includes 22 separate rooms in the Convention Center, and branches out to more than four other major venues, not including the outside of the center, which has events scattered around and feels like a comic-book campus.
