Could this be the shadiest festival rivalry of all?
AEG Live’s plans for hosting a very Coachella-like festival in New York City next June, may just not happen thanks to the organisers of NYC’s favourite music festival Governors Ball.
AEG Live apparently is all set to launch Panorama Music Festival which scheduled to take place two weeks after Governors Ball, but latterΒ is having none of that. The organisers have launched a petition demanding the Mayor of NYC to reject the event proposal for June 2016.
This petition can bring significant change to the NYC festival scenario, as Gov Ball has been the monopoly music festival of New York City’s summer.Β Panorama Music Festival could quite literally create a competition for headlining acts and tickets sales, which can affect the business of Governor’s Ball.
The Governors Ball petition reads,
“The timing of this proposed event is an aggressive, greedy attempt by AEG to push a small independent company of born and bred New Yorkers out of business and out of the market.”Β
The petition stresses on the fact that the festival not be rejected, but asked to take place during another time of the year.
As far as festival’s go Governors Ball and Coachella have both created their identities in the music events space, with the formerΒ being New York’s answer to a great summer festival.Β So it would be interesting to see how this legal battle will panΒ out!
