It’s been quite a week for Toronto. With Digital Dreams on the weekend (with Day 1 being cancelled), and Electric Island hosting it’s second edition for 2015, there is an influx of top artists in Toronto currently this week. Being hosted on Canada Day, Electric Island is back with its second edition of the summer of its annual picnic and event concert that takes place on Toronto Island. In case you’re not currently acquainted with the line up for Canada Day, The Sherp is here to help you.

Sasha

sasha

Tech house legend Sasha has been smashing the charts with his music for decades and decades. Starting his career in the 80’s (yeah, he’s been around), Sasha is known for his skills as a producer and a DJ. His compilation album series, Involver, have captured the attention of fans and DJ’s all around the world, and is an example of his skill and finesse. The Sherp’s personal favourite remix from Sasha is Flutes by Hot Chip, which you can hear below!

Marcel Dettmann

dettmann

Marcel Dettmann is another artist that’s been around before most of our readers were born. A savant in Techno, Marcel Dettmann has been spreading the trend of techno in his hometown, Berlin, ever since he was a young teen. Infamous for flawless sets, Marcel Dettmann has been a performer at some of the most prestigious techno clubs in the world, including the infamous Barghain. Our personal favourite from Marcel Dettmann is his remix of Ellen Allien’s β€˜Go’.

Lee Foss

Lee Foss is one of the four-members of house band, Hot Natured. Inspired by the music he grew up with in Chicago, Lee Foss is known for his old-school sounds that are prominent in many of his tracks and releases. Pinning his music down to a single genre wouldn’t give justice to his varied musical styles, which range from nu-school house to a very gritty synth-heavy techno. Our favourite release from Lee Foss is his original β€˜Drop’.

Dennis Ferrer

Dennis-Ferrer

Hailing from the big apple, New York City based artist, Dennis Ferrer started DJ’ing earlier in the scene, collaborating with artists like The Martinez Brothers and Masters At Work (MAW). He is known for his soulful house music that derives a lot of influence from earlier works from many blues and jazz artists in the city. The Sherp recommends you check out his remix of Sabb’s β€˜One of Us’ below!

Greg Gow

GREG3

Greg Gow stems from Toronto and is gathering a name as a DJ, promoter and music label manager. Known for his electric techno sets, Greg Gow has a various number of singles and remixes that bring out his skill. Check out his remix of β€˜Deep Space Radio’ below!

Starting out as a promoter for a nightclub, Toronto’s very own Jeff Button has since grown significantly as a DJ in Toronto’s night scene, bagging up residencies in many famous venues and companies like Coda, Platform, Sound Mind, and Embrace. Having played with Lee Foss for The Modern Love, Jeff Button is sure to set the mood straight at Electric Island. Here’s a little preview he’s set up for Electric Island.

Jonathan Rosa

Toronto’s Jonathan Rosa has been a resident for two of Toronto’s hottest night destinations, Coda & Comfort Zone. Jonathan Rosa is known for his deep house sounds that hint at a bit of future house too, exploring his sounds and broadening his style. Check out his remix of The Weeknd’s β€˜Where You Belong’ below!
