The inaugural edition of Insomniac’s flagship festival is heading to the land of the rising sun. Has India ever been closer to having a major international festival in their own backyard?

Hold your breaths, Asia, there’s a fantastic festival update for you guys. After announcing their first ever South American edition this year, Electric Daisy Carnival will now plant its seeds in Tokyo next year. As one of the leading festival brands in the world, EDC‘s global expansion continues as they plan their first ever outing on Asian soil. The move comes swiftly after rival brand Ultra deployed their ‘Worldwide’ sub-brand all across Asia, from Indonesia all the way to Cambodia and Thailand.

Scheduled to take place in July 2016, Electric Daisy Carnival’s expansion was first announced (in signature fashion), by the amazingly active Insomniac head honcho – Pasquale Rotella. Surely, this sends out an imposing  message to all rival festival taste makers – especially Ultra. No line-up or venue details have been announced yet, and since its almost a year away, don’t expect it sometime soon. All you can do for now is clear your plans (if you plan that far ahead) for July next year, because missing this artistically magnificent festival is folly.

With most of the top festival brands venturing into Asia, and especially the South East – One often ponders over whether these guys have looked a bit further west and probably looked at India as a market to host a festival of such a monstrous scale. India has never had so many top music festivals venture into such close proximity of the country before, and the Sherp is hopeful, that someday – our prayers will be answered.
