When it comes to ticket sales, Coachella blows the other festivals straight out of the water!
Forbes just dropped the list of top 10 moneymakers in the music festival business (2015) with a combined total of over $195 million in only ticket sales. Coachella sits on top with a cool $84 million, miles away from the second spot held by Outside Lands at a measly (in comparison) $24.3 million. With the recent expansion of Coachella to two consecutive weekends, the money is only going to get more serious. Of course this totally excludes F&B sales which is a whole other area entirely and would probably kick Coachella even higher up in the ranks.
Though some Non-American festivals managed to creep onto the list, it is clearly visible that the money is all in USA in respect to music festivals. According to Forbes, “Over 1.1 million people went to just these ten festivals alone, with at least one several-day party surpassing the two hundred thousand threshold. Those numbers may climb in the future, but probably not as much as revenue, as many of these events have finite space, and they can only fit so many revelers—though the potential to make more money is seemingly endless.”
