Established in 2005, the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival has been one of the biggest Hip-Hop gatherings in New York which showcases the long lived legacy as well as the change hip-hop has brought about in society.Β 

In addition to the various stellar performances lines up, the festival also has various events like film festivals, exhibitions and panel discussions. They describe it as being a social gathering for like-minded people rather than a concert. It’s 4 days of non-stop beats, verses, food, entertainment and fashion!Β The annual event produced by the Brooklyn Bodega is slated to take place from the 13th-16th July 2016.Β The line-up that has been announced has biggies likeΒ NAS, Fabolous, Talib Kweli and Rapsody!Β The house DJ for the event will be Rob Swift who along with Uncle Ralph McDaniels will be making sure things go smoothly.Β Here’s the breakdown of all the events about to go down at the festival-

Β Hip-Hop Institute (July 13th)

The Hip-Hop Institute will have different panel discussions with topics varying from women in the hip-hop business, the current state of hip-hop journalism as well as the upcoming trend of sneaker businesses which has seen a steady rise among enthusiasts. The highlight of the event being keynote speaker,Β Deray Mckesson,Β who has been a major figure in the Black Lives Matter movement and has had a personal stand in the Baltimore case of Freddie Gray.

Β The Dummy Clap Film Festival (July 14th)

The film festival will be seeing various old school documentaries, shorts and feature films being showcased along with masterclasses by prominent filmmakers both commercial as well as indie. This would be the perfect venue for someone who wants to know the in and out of the industry.

Β Juice Hip Hop Exhibition (July 15th)

 

Juice celebrates the legacy of hip-hop by getting together all the upcoming talents in the fields of dancers, DJ’s, beat-makers, graffiti artists, sneakerheads etc. under one roof to showcase their individual talents through the festivals platform. This year the Brooklyn Hip- Hop festival aims to showcase every single element of rap from the major trendsetting cities like New York, Chicago and Atlanta.

Β Finale Concert (July 16th)

And finally the creme de la creme of the event, the finale concert! Known for their power-packed finale concerts, the BK Hip-Hop festival has managed to rope in the likes of the legendary NAS, Fabolous, Talib Kweli and Rapsody among many more names! Often known for the surprise appearances the concerts have, you can be assured that you’ll be treated to more than a few big names on the day of the event! Over the years legends like Jay-Z, Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar have graced the stage to make the crowd go nuts! As they put it “The place where old school legends share the stage with the next generation stars”.
