If you ever thought that lights we’re not magical, you will be proved wrong. These lights stir something within us and its okay to express emotions over light. Even if you suffer from nytophilia, these light displays will blow your mind in the good way.

1. GLOW Eindhoven

This amazing festival in Netherlands is the annual light and colour festival that takes place in the Dutch city every autumn. All the installations allow artist to express their creativity through lights and honestly we’re so damn impressed. We know the residents have a lower light bill during this period.

2. Lumiere London

Dubbed the largest light festival in England, the festival has had jaw dropping installations of lights molded into faces, figures and other items bathed in colour of mostly LED lights, making it as eco-friendly as possible. This year had a beautiful display of pieces that were truly jaw dropping. Beautiful and classy just like the British.

3. Berlin Festival of Lights

Home to the great Berlin Wall, this city comes alive with a brilliant display of lights at all its great landmarks during this festival. The vibrant colours highlight the architecture as well as the journey they have all endured for so long. It’s magical in every aspect and one you need to see to believe.

4. Nest One by Simon Husslein

This one is a lifetime installation by German artist Husslein was set up in a tree in France. It was to symbolise the birth of life from a dying tree. The sphere was glowing like the sun from within and was a sight you had to see to believe. Luckily the artist took a snap of this piece before it was removed.

5. Lunar Lantern Festival

Taiwan lights up every year to celebrate the lunar year with a display of God knows how many lanterns all over the designated city of the year. Other activities also take place during the festival but the lights definitely steal the show. People of all ages come together to see this glow of warmth from the lanterns and help celebrate their culture.

6. Horsetail Firefall

This seasonal waterfall located in the Yosemite National Park in California need the right weather in the month of February to illuminate a bright orange/red colour. It is often referred to as “Firefall” as an homage to the practice of the old tradition to the man-made Firefall which was stopped in the park from 1968 after it destroyed a hotel. Take about burning love.

7. Infinity Room by Yayoi Kusama

Japanese artist Yayoi Kusuma is known for her avant garde taste, right from her appearance as well as her work. She created this stunning room where only one person at a time can step in for a minute and marvel at the bright lights and endless mirrors. It has become so popular that people have been put on a waiting list to even get a chance at experiencing the 360 degree work. We wonder which festival will rope her in for this colourful display. We think someone should soon.

8. Lux Helsinki

Finland holds the annual art event filled with lights in the city of Helsinki by artist from all over the world. Buildings and roads are flooded with lights in all the colours of the rainbow and its magnificent. The cold city comes alive with the various lights and honestly makes you feel like you’re on the best trip of your life.

9. Flurorecent Sculptures by Hitoshi Kuriyama

We are surrounded by tube light everywhere when they’re individually placed in rooms. But Kuriyama created a stunning display when he clubbed many tube lights together and created this stunning series. They are arranged on ceilings, floors, doors and even suspended mid air. Imagine an indoor festival being lit up this way. Quite the trippy experience.

10. Lumina Festival

Cascais, Portugal is lit up to celebrate all things related to light, sound and movement. The town uses video mapping and light projections on the walls of all its buildings. It looks like a dream with the lights glowing and having an interactive touch for the visitors. It’s a one of a kind experience and we want to go there so badly.
