That’s one small step for music biz in India, one giant leap for Vh1 Supersonic!
So, have you heard who the next headliner for Vh1 Supersonic, 2018 is? Oh yes, that DJ Dutch again, guys! Well, hold on! It’s not the same this time. Vh1 Supersonic stumped us all with the announcement of their most recent and surprising headliner, alt-J! The English rock band aren’t making their first visit to India, in fact this will be the third time that they will be addressing the Indian audiences, however it is a Vh1 Supersonic first, having a live act on their otherwise EDM dominated roster.
alt-J was last in India in 2015 for the Emerge Music Festival, that again was a property of Vh1 and LIVE Viacom 18. With the 2018 edition being the 5th anniversary edition of Vh1 Supersonic, the festival has kept their promise of delivering something stellar and not-so-usual-Supersonic, with the inclusion of alt-J as the first live act to headline the three-day festival.
Vh1 Supersonic is a four-year-old festival property and has been predominantly known for their remarkable lineup and experiences in the EDM space. This year however, the festival is pulling all ropes to do something bigger and unheard of. The festival is moving towards including diversity in music and including more live acts in the festival.
Previous editions have seen Macklemore enthral the crowds at Vh1 Supersonic, and although Macklemore was an act out of the EDM space, Vh1 Supersonic is set to make a serious move into expanding their genre space at the festival.
The announcement of alt-J as the second headliner, comes as a sweet surprise and has us believe that Vh1 Supersonic has a lot more in store for the live music, rock and indie music aficionados in India.
Vh1 Supersonic, although young in its origin, has been one of the most landmark music festivals in India, having achieved a number of remarkable feats over the years. From rooting their maiden festival back in 2013 in just 20 days, to getting the legendary music icon, Eric Prydz, down to India, which might as well have been the only time India would get to see him on our soil. As far as the music goes, Vh1 Supertime has constantly delivered the most exciting artists such as Disclosure, Adam Beyer, Goldie, Stanton Warriers, Netsky, Carl Craig, Maya Jane Coles, Eli & Fur, and the mighty Awakenings!
As far as the production goes, Vh1 Supersonic has proved its forward thinking and technology defining skills with the spectacular Iron Heart stage that is essentially a marvel that has been set up on shifting sand and the even more magnificent Sonic Realm Stage.

With the ballsy and very welcome announcement of alt-J on their headlining roster for the 2018 edition, it is safe to say that there is a lot more going Supersonic, this fifth edition.
