Goa Reggae Sunsplash will be India’s first music festival solely dedicated to the celebration of reggae sound system culture and therefore curated by Delhi-based reggae and dancehall act Reggae Rajahs.
The festival that will take place this month (January 16) features a fantastic lineup of international and homegrown acts, including General Levy (UK), Naaman (France), Steppa Style (Russia) and Delhi Sultanate (India).
General Levy is an English ragga deejay, who usually collaborates on studio tracks with drum and bass DJs. Naaman is a French reggae singer who draws influences from Ska, Blues, Folk, Hip Hop and Dancehall. Steppa Style was one of the pioneers of Reggae, Dancehall & Jungle in Russia, making tunes in English and Patois. Representing India is Delhi Sultanate, apart from being a solo act he is also the lead singer of the Delhi-based ska and dub band, The Ska Vengers.
Though the festival is technically only a day long, it is a 4 day celebration with pre and post parties at various locations.
One of the highlights is the handcrafted sound system dubbed ‘10,000 Lions’ built in Goa (Make In India right?) that powers the festival. Hear it roar in all its 12000 watt glory on the January 16 at Nyex Beach, Anjuna.
