The second Coachella weekend saw a series of tributes to the late Prince, a true legend of his time. Guns N’ Roses, LCD Soundsystem, Ellie Goulding and Mavis Staples were among several other actsΒ and fans alike, who paid their respects to the former superstar.Β

The first Coachella weekend featured a lot of tributes to another legend who sadly passed away, David Bowie. Some touching tributes to Prince were displayed this weekend, including a temporary memorial at the Coachella gates.

Here are 8 acts that paid their respects to the singer on stage:

1. Guns N’ Roses

From a legend to another, Guns N’ Roses had an entire Prince theme going, with the logo on their drum kit lit in purple to honour the late rocker. To add to that, Duff McKagan’s lovely white guitar featured Prince’s iconic logo pasted on it. Now that’s one way of paying tributes.

2. LCD Soundsystem

The reunited LCD Soundsystem had other ways of offering their respect, and it was a little more than justΒ symbolic. They covered a Prince song instead: Controversy. The stage was lit in purple while they performed his early hit song, to add to the David Bowie tribute they did last weekend.

3. Jack U

Jack U’s computer screen stage was adorned with the Prince logo at the end of their set, while his songs Let’s Go Crazy and I Wanna Be Your Lover played to close the duo’s Coachella mix.

4. Ice Cube & N.W.A

When Ice Cube came on stage, he wasted no time in dedicating his entire performance to Prince.Β β€œTo an icon in music and entertainment, I would like to dedicate this show to my man Prince Rogers Nelson,” said the rapper as he delivered a riveting performance that again saw N. W. A. reunite, this time with Dr. Dre too.

5. Disclosure

Disclosure got their wildly popular face outline symbol on the jumbotron, and coloured it purple to honour the late hit maker, and then performed Latch for the responsive crowd to close their set.

6. Mavis Staples

Another legend paid her tribute to Prince, and it was Mavis Staples. She got a little emotional on stage and said this:Β β€œYesterday I lost a dear friend. He was my son … my angel. … I’m talking about Prince.” Right after that, she went ahead and sang “Purple Rain” to honour the singer.

7. Ellie Goulding

The singer had her own tribute to the legend, performing an accoustic version of When Doves Cry, which was a hit in 1984, before switching over to her hit ‘Lights’.

8. Sufijan Stevens & Gallant

Sufijan Stevens teamed up with Gallant to cover Purple Rain, with the latter already having coveredΒ Diamonds and Pearls in his own performance withΒ JhenΓ© Aiko. As you can see from the video, they did it splendidly, and Prince would definitely be proud!
