This year, TGIOF is going to feature a heady mix of established and up-and-coming performers. The Sherp picks some of his favourite acts

The coming weekend (October 17-19) will see Bangalore’s music and beer fans heading to biggest party in town – The Great Indian October Fest 2014. Since the festival is also celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, expect the weekend gala to be a bigger, better and crazier affair.

Apart from the food and beer highlights, there are some kick-ass artistes that will be entertaining the attendees at the fest. Here are the ones you shouldn’t miss.

1.Β Mad Orange Fireworks

From: Bangalore
Genre: Rock

They wear their versatility proudly on their sleeve. Be it jazz, funk, rock or pop, trust these boys to deliver anything with equal finesse. They might be only the three of them on the stage, but they pack quite a bit of punch like. Their genre-inclusive setlist guarantees them fans across ages at any event.

2. Black Letters

From: Bangalore/Cochin
Genre: Alt-rock

Having played at the GoMAD and Bacardi NH7 Weekender festivals, this young band is steadily rising up popularity charts. They’ve got everything going for them to click with a festival audience – guitar-heavy sound, haunting grooves and melodies that manage to get stuck in your mind. They released their debut album, titled Shapes On The Wall, earlier this year. Black Letters are currently working on an EP, which should be out next year.

3. Ministry Of Blues

From: Bangalore
Genre: Blues-rock

Ministry Of Blues has been charming blues aficionados in Bangalore for a while now. Their USP is their ability to add their own contemporary twists to legendary old-school blues melodies. If you’re a fan of the blues, you are going to fall in love with this band, what with their honey-kissed, smooth guitar riffs and foot-tapping beats.

4. Brodha V

From: Bangalore
Genre: Hip-hop

Vighnesh Shivanand aka Brodha V is on his way to becoming one of the most noted hip-hop artistes in India. The singer-performer is also a multi-tasker of sorts; as a composer, rapper, sound engineer and lyricist, he has worked on films, apart from playing at various events across the country. Recently, he released a single, ‘Aigiri Nandini’ which was well-received in terms on online hits and shares. At his gig at TGIOF, allow yourself to let go and move to his beat, yo!

5. Pinch

From: Bangalore
Genre: Alt-rock

On its Facebook page, this young, four-member describes its genre as ‘sexy after 30’. We trust them to be just that. Pinch started its musical innings last years, and we must say, it has passed some important milestones. Don’t blame us if their songs play on loop in your mind when you shower the day after the gig.

6. Bhoomi

From: Bangalore

Even if you aren’t a metalhead, there’s something about Bhoomi’s sound that will grip you when you first listen to any of their songs. The band has been rocking the Bangalore live scene since 2002, and it is no wonder that they are considered one of the most entertaining metal bands on the circuit.
