1. The Dog Film Festival

Where: New York, City
When: August

This year, will be the year of the first annual dog film festival which will pay homage to the remarkable bond between dogs and their people. It will be a dynamic ongoing platform that provides unique experiences for celebrating the joy of sharing stories about the relationships between dogs and people.  The Dog Film Festival is an ideal way to connect with the 5 million pet owners in New York City, as well as the 82.5 million households with pets in the United States, where 68% of the population owns a pet.

2. Somerville Dog Festival

Where: Somerville, Maryland, USA
When: September

The Somerville dog fest is one of the most well known pooch events out there, organised by The Somerville Foundation for Animal. This year will be its 5th edition of amazing dog demonstrations and activities you can try with your dog. Basically its a nice day out in the sun, full of fun and games and adorable puppy competitions.

3. Your Dog Is Worth It Too

Where: Jersey, USA
When:  August.

Coinciding with the US’s National Homeless Animals Day is “Your Dog Is Worth It Too” Festival supported by L’Oreal, where over 5000 people come to support stray animals and raise thousands of dollars for Breast Cancer survivors as well. There are tons of fun events that take place including bull dog races, high jump contests and a cutesy puppy costume parade!

Note: The festival wont be taking place this year.

4. Golden Retriever Festival

Where: Scotland
When: July

Guisachan Gathering is basically the happiest festival you could ever be at. Hosted by the Golden Retriever Club of Scotland (which happens to be the ancestral home of the breed), the festival brings in over 200 golden retrievers from all over the world every year. From dog shows to general revelry in the sun, it’s a great place for your handsome golden to meet his princess.

5. Wienerfest

Where: Ontario, Canada
When: June 20

When it comes to breed-specific, Ontario’s wienerfest gets it right. From adorable daschund puppy races to bobbing for wiener dogs, this festival comes loaded with activities and games you and wiener dog can gleefully take part it. What’s better? There’s a pizza party after and all proceeds generated at the event for to help Canaddian animal rescue charities

 

6. Pawtoberfest

Where: Colorado, USA
When: September – October

With a clever and kitschy take on Germany’s ‘Oktoberfest’, the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region hosts an annual Pawtoberfest 5K run, for runners and walkers to bring their dogs. Like most other animal fests all benefits of the event goes into rescue charities. During the 5K run, local vendors and breweries keep contestants satiated with an array of good food and beer. Also, since the event takes place around Halloween, there is a dog costume contest to take part in as well!
