The audio sharing service recently announced a new round of funding amounting to about $60 million!

Popularly renowned as the Youtube of audio, The Berlin – based start up received a massive funding from investment tycoons Institutional Venture Partners & Chernin Group, which will now allow the service to grow exponentially in terms of overall performance & user database.

Sound Cloud’s ultimate goal is to become theΒ audio platform of the web. Just like YouTube, user-generated content remains the startup’s fuel. Every minute, 12 hours of sound and music are uploaded to the platform. For comparison’s sake, YouTube reportsΒ 100 hours of content uploaded every minute.

The service is used extensively by music artists to preview & share their upcoming tracks as well as make it available for free download.

A huge chunk of Sound Cloud users only use the service to listen, share and review work put up by other artists. The defining aim behind this humongous capital refuel seems to be to turn users into content creators over time rather than content consumers.

It offers free subscription for upload limited to 2 hours, next in line being a mere $12 (Roughly Rs 700) a month investment allowing you unlimited content upload/usage.

Let’s see what else is in store for The Sherp’s favorite music streaming facility.
