Picking a band name isnβt an easy job. You start a rock band in your teens and name it after spending several hours sniffing paint and consuming bleach. After playing a few years in some small club, a major label discovers you and before you know it, youβre topping the charts! Suddenly, you realize the hastily-conceived preposterous name you thought up is going to follow you for the rest of your life.
The rock genre is littered with truly horrid names. Hereβs a list of 10 bands with the most outrageous names, irrespective of their music quality.
1.Β Armageddon Dildos
This German electro-industrial band was formed in 1988. The duo, Uwe Kanka and Dirk Krause perform songs in German as well as English. Their name is derived from the slang term for intercontinental ballistic missiles.
2.Β The Atomic Bitchwax
A stoner rock band that started in 1992 in New Jersey, their music is a mishmash of 60s psychedelic rock, 70s riff rock and todayβs progressive rock influences. The band gradually evolved as a players band with the enduring vision to βplay what you wantβ.
3.Β Anal Cunt
No oneβs too straight-laced, but this one crosses the line. What exactly were they thinking while naming the band? Weβll never know. Apparently, the grindcore band from Massachusetts meant the name as a joke on their first recording, but by some means it stuck. In 2011, they released an album titledΒ Fuckinβ A.
4.Β The Bambi Molesters
The surf rock band from Croatia was formed in 1995 and performs regularly across Europe. They have built their reputation as one of the most original contemporary surf bands due to their fiery and energetic live performances. But with a name like that, theyβve most certainly ruined our childhood!
5.Β Anus The Menace
This one is from our own country! Formed in Chandigarh in 2008, this four-piece alternative/punk rock band indepently released their debut album in 2009 titled βRevenge Of The Shitβ.
6.Β Dick Delicious & The Tasty Testicles
Formed in 1992, this is a comedy/metal band Atlanta, Georgia. Between 1995 and 2003, they released 3 albums. Their fourth album, βA Vulgar Display Of Obscurityβ was released in 2011. No comments on the name of this band!
7.Β Urinals
This punk rock band from Southern California is known for its minimalist approach to songwriting and recording. Formed way back in 1978, they changed their name to β100 Flowersβ after developing a more sophisticated sound. In 1996, it was reformed as βUrinalsβ. Later, they took the name βChairs of Perceptionβ before again becoming βUrinalsβ in 2008. This is just downright comical!
8.Β Cherry Poppinβ Daddies
Daddies doing horrible things to their daughters is the last thing one wants to visualize while listening t music! Although these daddies donβt specify whose cherries theyβre popping, it is unintentionally implied. Formed in 1989, this American band took their name from an old blues record.
9.Β Natalie Portmanβs Shaved Head
This one is an unmistakable reference to Natalie Portmanβs physical appearance in the film βV for Vendettaβ. Despite the dreadful name, the American indie rock band lasted and unexpected four years before they finally came to their senses and changed the name to βBrite Futuresβ. Apparently, their future wasnβt too βbriteβ as they broke up in 2012.
10.Β Goo Goo Dolls
If you say it out loud, you will realize it resembles the sound of a newborn gargling while emerging out of the birth canal β which most assuredly doesnβt come anywhere close to what the bandβs music sounds like! Formerly known as βSex Maggotsβ, this American rock band was formed in 1985 in New York.
