Is there a storyteller hidden inside you?

In the midst of music festivals vying for a spot in the bustling festival season, get set to experience a breath of fresh air. SPOKEN is a first-of-its-kind festival that celebrates the magic of words by setting the stage for some of the most vibrant voices in live storytelling, poetry, spoken word and song from across India and around the globe. The festival is the brainchild of Kommune – a collective of artists, producers, patrons, collaborators and art lovers who want to discover and nurture creative performance art ideas.

This October, on the 28th and 29th, make your way to Mumbai’s JioGarden and hobnob with more than 50 performers who will fly in from all over the world to put on an unforgettable show. We’re talking about treating yourself to performances by UK Shakespearian bards – The HandleBards, Raghu Dixit, Piyush Mishra, Kalki Koechlin, Naezy and Kommune’s own superstars – Ankur Tewari, Shamir Reuben, Gaurav Kapur and Tess Joseph, among others. And, with language no bar, you can expect an exciting mix of performances and art in languages as diverse as Urdu, Hindi and Kannada.

But that’s not all. You can look forward to sharpening your skills by participating in one of the several interactive workshops and masterclasses. Make sure to catch up with Grammy-nominated African American storyteller, Diane Ferlatte, or 5-time champion of The Moth Storyslam, Margot Leitman. Sign up and learn the art of writing lyrics from the likes of Swanand Kirkire, or get schooled in the art of playwriting from Sumukhi Suresh. With abundant activities keeping you busy, you won’t even realise how both days go by!

Festival’s Director and Founder of Kommune, Roshan Abbas says, β€œKommune was built as a platform for artistes. From storytelling nights in cottages to poetry slams in yoga studios, we have built this audience one heartbeat at a time. And today we have a community that breathes and lives the art of spoken word, storytelling and poetry. We are now poised to give them a larger stage and louder voice.”

Early bird tickets are selling at INR 1,920 for both days, while the student ticket is priced at INR 1,600. Kommune-ity tickets are going for INR 1,600. The tickets are live, so get them now.
