Join The Sherp and others at The Barking Deer Brewpub tonight to help the amazing Shweta Katti achieve her dream of studying abroad!
Everyone likes to party, so why not party for a cause?
You like the idea but are wondering how to go about it, well The Sherp has found a perfect solution β βGive Wings to Shweta!β, a unique initiative by the good folks at The American Alumni Association and Kranti (a womenβs rights NGO) to help raise funds to support 18 year old Shweta Katti dreams of pursuing her higher education in the US.
For those of you who donβt know who Shweta Katti is (her amazing story is all over todayβs print media), she is the daughter of a devdasi and was raised in Mumbaiβs oldest and largest red-light district (Kamathipura). Shweta first came into the spotlight when she defied the social path laid out for her and chose to study instead.
Her perseverance and dedication has got her a full scholarship to study psychology at Bard College in New York.
While this covers basic costs, she still needs financial assistance to contribute towards accommodation, food and books. The fundraising event is aimed at generating the finances required to cover these additional costs.
βGive Wings to Shweta!β will take place at The Barking Deer Brewpub and will feature a short film about her journey and some delectable musical notes with chaMartin. The entire event will be hosted by the beautiful Monica Dogra.
Tickets are priced at Rs. 1000 (in advance onΒ http://ketto.org/fundraiser_home.php?id=Fund204) and Rs. 1500 at the door which includes a drink and appetizers.
