Rumour has it Coachella organisers are eyeing New York’s Flushing Meadows Corona Park for an east coast edition of the festival!
So many large-scale music festivals like Ultra, Insomniac and Lollapalooza have gone international in recent years owing to the stupendous success of music festivals across the globe. It wasn’t long before Coachella, which happens to be the largest music festival of the year, opened up another edition. The giant festival began in 1999, and since then has seen some of the most amazing lineups in music history. The performers at this festival usually find themselves booked on lineups all year long, and are even offered massive endorsements deals for appearances.
Tentatively dubbed Panorama, this version of the festival may be on the cards quite soon. The location, Flushing Meadows Corona Park is iconic in NYC history, having hosted the 1964 World’s Fair, and being featured in films like Men In Black and Iron Man 2. The park has also never hosted such a large event before, and there are concerns of a clash with Governors Ball, a music festival that hasn’t been around for as long as Coachella has, and is also smaller in scale. Headliners for this festival in the past have been Florence+The Machine, Drake, deadmau5 and Lana Del Ray, and it’s currently the leading music festival in the area. Hosting an edition of Coachella around the same time of the year would pose serious competition.
