The Harbin Ice And Snow Sculpture Festival is truly a sight to behold. Held annually during the winter season in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China, it is the largest ice and snow festival in the world. The small scale festival was earlier only popular with locals but now attracts tourists and participants (for the ice sculpture contests) from all over the world. These contests result in some of the world’s biggest ice sculptures.
This year’s sculptures featured a large ice castle, a giant ice pyramid inspired by Egypt’s Great Pyramid of Giza and buildings representing Russian architecture with the iconic onion shaped domes. Harbin staples such as icy slides and stairways were also present and were walked on by more than a million visitors over the course of the festival.
