The new “Her Forest” initiative by the Electric Forest Festival is an effort to build upon the experiences of women attending the festival.

Music Festivals are infamous for the sexual harassment faced by several women. This dissuades women from ever going to festivals due to the traumatic experiences they face. The Electric Forest Festival has taken this into consideration and introduced the new “Her Forest”, Women’s Group Camp initiative. The camp is intended especially for women camping alone or for those seeking a community building experience with fellow women.

“With a focus on Connection, Inspiration, and Comfort, Her Forest is a collaboration between women. All Her Forest projects are intended to create the most supportive and empowering environment possible.”

A limited number of spaces are available in this camp which is located centrally in the GA Campgrounds. Like a true group camp, the festival will provide parking passes only to a minimum group of three, encouraging carpooling. The camp host, Edith Johnson of The Festival Girl, will help connect members to collaborate on projects, coordinate arrivals and facilitate festival activities. The camp is available to women for an additional fee of $40.

We applaud this initiative by the Electric Forest, but there should be more measures at every festival that ensures the safety of all women.
