Even after releasing three No. 1 singles this year, global pop sensation BTS received only one nomination for the 2022 Grammy Awards.
For the second time, the South Korean boy band received its sole nomination for pop duo/group performance. The groupβs super hit track, βButterβ, is nominated alongside Tony Bennett and Lady Gagaβs βI Get a Kick Out of You,β Justin Bieber and Benny Blancoβs βLonely,β Coldplayβs βHigher Powerβ and Doja Cat and SZAβs βKiss Me More.β
During the live stream announcing the 2022 nominees, BTS was excluded from the coveted record and song of the year categories, even though βButterβ spent 10 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
BTS also participated in the announcement by revealing the nominees for the alternative music album.
BTSβ βPermission to Danceβ also peaked at No. 1 on the Hot 100, as did the groupβs popular collaboration with Coldplay, βMy Universe.β
BTS landed a nomination last year in the pop duo/group performance category for the chart-topping 2020 track βDynamite.β But unfortunately, that award ended up going to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grandeβs βRain on Me.β
The Grammy’s snub comes days after BTSΒ dominated the fan-voted American Music AwardsΒ and became the first Asian group to win the showβs top honor: artist of the year. Band members V, Suga, Jin, Jungkook, RM, Jimin, and J-Hope of BTS also nabbed the prize for the pop group, while βButterβ scored the award for pop songs.
βNobody could have ever bet on the odds of us standing here receiving this award, except yβall, Army,β BTSβ RM said, using the nickname for their legions of fans while accepting the AMA for artist of the year.
This weekend, BTS will kick off the first ofΒ four highly anticipated showsΒ at Inglewoodβs SoFi Stadium. Their concerts on Nov. 27, Nov. 28, Dec. 1, and Dec. 2 will mark the first timeΒ the superstarsΒ have performed before a full crowd of fans since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
