American Idol is set to make a comeback this year, with Katy Perry confirmed on the panel!

The popular American singing talent show that was shut down after previous broadcasters Fox ruled it out, will now make a comeback with ABC having taken over the show. The big news this week is that Katy Perry has been confirmed to be a judge on the show. The electric pop queen took to her Instagram to announce the big news this morning!

The show went on for 15 seasons before being cancelled by Fox. The popular US show is known for recognizing the talented Kelly Clarkson when she took part in the show and later went on to win the very first season of American Idol. Other talents to have emerged from the show include Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry.

Season 15 of the show saw Jennifer Lopez , country singer Keith Urban and actor Harry Connick Jnr on the judging panel. While the Season 16 comeback of the show under the banner of ABC Studios has confirmed Katy Perry as the first among 3 judges to have been confirmed, rumour has it that, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin might be the next judge to be signed on to the show!

Former judge of the show, Simon Cowell, has been ruled out as a possibility this season after he turned down an offer to join the show. Another rumour to have surfaced is that of Season 1 winner, Kelly Clarkson, joining the bandwagon. While this hasn’t been confirmed yet, her fans are eager to hear the fated news.
