The world’s leading trance label has come a long way since its inception back in 2003. Its 2 hour radio mixes have become a fixed obsession among the trance community over the years, and the fact that it has finally manifested into a proper festival this year is testament to its pioneering position in the world of trance.
To celebrate 700 episodes of ASOT, the weekly radio show took festival form this year with multiple stage events around the world and for the first time in music festival history, The ASOT Festival is coming to Asia with a splendid line-up spearheaded by the label’s head honcho – Armin Van Buuren. A State Of Trance has grown to become the top trance radio show in the world and every 50th episode has been celebrated religiously all around the globe. Here are some of the radio show’s finest moments:
1. ASOT 550 – Invasion
One of the best ASOT celebrations of all time with an outstanding anthem. Composed by Dutch producers W&W, Invasion conquered large parts of Europe and the United States across 6 massive shows featuring the likes of Paul Oakenfold, Dash Berlin, Cosmic Gate, Shogun and others. It was from this edition that ASOT began accompanying their milestone episodes with a scintillating anthem. In the Sherp’s books, Invasion was the pick among the lot.
2. ASOT 600 – Expedition
The largest ASOT celebration ever carried out, Expedition headed to 12 cities across the globe including the radio show’s debut in Mumbai, India. Eagerly awaited by trance fans all across India, ASOT 650 went on to host events in Kuala Lumpur, Guatemala, Beirut, Belarus and Brazil.
3. ASOT 650 – New Horizons
ASOT touched down in cities such as Buenos Aires, Jakarta, Miami, Yekaterinburg, Utrecht and Kuala Lumpur to celebrate the 650th episode of their radio show, now with a groundbreaking listenership of about 25 million people across 26 countries. It was during this time that ASOT also nailed a residency at Ibiza’s popular Ushuaia nightclub. A massive year for the show, and there was more success to follow.
4. ASOT Stage At Ultra, Miami
On March 2011 during the Ultra Music Festival, A State of Trance was given its own stage as part of its 500th episode tour. This was the first time a radio show was given its own tent at a music festival, along with its own broadcast, separate from the festival’s official broadcast. Typically a festival stage is hosted by either a particular style of music, or a record label but since 2011, A State of Trance has had its own arena at Ultra and the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas.
