This wacky, yet extremely relatable story of seven Indian women was the first runner-up for the Grolsch People’s Choice Award at Toronto International Film Festival and bagged the People’s Choice Award at the Rome Film Fest!

Angry Indian Goddesses premiered at Toronto International Film Festival two months ago, and has been received extremely well since then. With an eight-minute standing ovation at Rome Film Fest, it went on to win the People’s Choice Award. The film also had an excellent premiere at MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Images) 17th Mumbai Film Festival, and a number of filmmakers have taken to social media to praise it. Director Pan Nalin has said that the success of the film has exceeded all expectations.

“Many will agree that best awards in the world are People’s Choice Awards; so here the people of Rome and Italy have voted after filling edge-to-edge five full house shows. What we started in a little village of Goa has gone global beyond all our goals,” Nalin said in a statement. He also added, “Above all it’s a great sign of inspiration that the international ‘janta’ (public) is connecting to stories of celebration of Indian womanhood.”

The film follows the story of Frieda (Sarah-Jane Dias), who invites her seven girlfriends to Goa to announce her wedding, after which an insane bachelorette party ensues, among other things. (no spoilers here! ). Sandhya Mridul, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Anushka Manchanda, Amrit Maghera, Rajshri Deshpande and Pavleen Gujral also star in the film. Angry Indian Goddesses is all set to release in India on December 4. Check out the trailer here!
